Robot, rush forward!

Dec 20, 2021

Can you imagine? In a spinal surgery with extremely high precision, the surgeon is not a doctor, but a robot!

Not long ago, at the State Key Laboratory of Robotics at the Shenyang Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, reporters saw a minimally invasive spinal surgery robot developed by researchers.

This robot can expand the capabilities of doctors from the three aspects of "brain", "eyes" and "hands" in response to surgical needs, and can help doctors complete operations with high precision and efficiency. Zhao Xingang, deputy director of the Robotics Laboratory, introduced that spinal fusion and internal fixation surgery are widely used in spinal injuries. If doctors lack imaging guidance, the misplacement rate is high, and improper operations may lead to catastrophic consequences.

"With this robot, surgery is much easier." Yu Haibin, director of the State Key Laboratory of Robotics, added.

Speaking of the State Key Laboratory of Robotics, it has a reputation. Its predecessor is the Open Laboratory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences founded by Academician Jiang Xinsong, the founder of my country's robotics industry in 1989, the earliest departmental laboratory in my country engaged in robotics research. Not long ago, at the National "Thirteenth Five-Year" Science and Technology Innovation Achievement Exhibition held in Beijing, a number of major scientific and technological achievements were concentrated, including the wireless intelligent control system for major industrial facilities, and the "Haidou No. 1" all-sea deep autonomous remote-controlled submersible. It was the laboratory that made its debut and undertook a lot of original basic research work.
