OrionStar Robotics was awarded the first ISO/IEC 42001:2023 (Artificial Intelligence Management System, AIMS) certification in Asia by SGS, an internationally recognized testing, inspection, and certification organization. This certification signifies that OrionStar has fully aligned with international standards, integrating the AIMS standard and legal requirements into its organizational governance, business strategies, and core operations. It highlights OrionStar's technological leadership in the field of artificial intelligence and its strong sense of social responsibility.
What is ISO/IEC 42001?
AI is rapidly advancing and being adopted by many industries, products, and services. Undoubtedly, artificial intelligence is and will further impact society and our lives. Due to this progress and impact, trust, ethics, and social issues must be addressed. Artificial intelligence must be reliable, fair, transparent and trustworthy.
To address the rise of AI and the challenges it brings, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) released ISO/IEC 42001 in December 2023. This standard provides a certifiable framework for an Artificial Intelligence Management System (AIMS), where the development and deployment of artificial intelligence systems can be part of an ecosystem that ensures the reliability, transparency, accountability, compliance with ethical, regulatory standards, security, monitoring, assessment, and impact evaluation of artificial intelligence systems. The standard stipulates the requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining, and continuously improving AIMS.
Its goal is to help organizations and society derive the maximum benefit from AI while reassuring stakeholders that the development and use of systems are responsible.
What Does ISO/IEC 42001 Certification Mean to OrionStar Robotics?
Xin Bin, Vice President of SGS China and General Manager of SGS Management and Assurance Business Group in China, stated: "On behalf of SGS, I extend warm congratulations to OrionStar for obtaining the first AIMS certification for artificial intelligence management system in Asia. Artificial intelligence is a crucial means for countries to establish new quality productivity, as evidenced by the inclusion of 'AI+' in this year's government work report. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) jointly released the ISO/IEC 42001 standard in December 2023. OrionStar's successful certification represents the global best practices in international standards, marking a significant milestone. It is imperative to establish a long-term mechanism to ensure the sustainable and effective operation of the system."
Fu Sheng, Chairman of OrionStar, remarked: "Looking back at the company's history, we deeply believe that the more advanced the technology products, the stricter the regulations, with data privacy and management becoming increasingly critical. Through the AIMS certification, we have demonstrated that our AI system is managed in accordance with the latest, authoritative, and forward-looking international standards. I believe we are pioneering the artificial intelligence industry, and I am grateful for the efforts of our colleagues and the recognition from SGS."
"Protecting user data privacy is our obligation, and ensuring internal management is more organized is our most important competitive advantage. Building on this certification, we need to truly meet the market's demands, develop products that cater to customer needs, and provide high-quality services that align with international market norms, bringing real value to global customers," said Fu Sheng.
