The Difference Between AGV And AMR

Jan 17, 2024

The full name of AGV is Automated Guided Vehicle, which means automatic guided transport vehicle in Chinese. It mainly refers to an automatic transport vehicle based on navigation technology and does not require manual driving. The full name of AMR is Autonomous Mobile Robot. The Chinese meaning is autonomous mobile robot, which mainly refers to some mobile robots with strong autonomy.
AGV mainly refers to vehicles that solve the problem of unmanned transportation in industrial logistics. Early AGVs could only move through guide lines on the ground. With the development of navigation technology, the positioning problem has been solved through high-position reflectors and positioning laser radar, without the need for physical guidance lines. Currently, this type of AGV is also called LGV. At the same time, visual technology positioning and navigation issues have improved, and devices such as VGV have emerged, which can more fully perceive obstacles and map information in the environment.
The concept of AMR comes from the field of robotics. It can actively react to the light in the environment and move autonomously to avoid obstacles. With the development of AI and robotics technology, the most advanced AMR robots can autonomously identify the surrounding environment, locate based on sensors, determine routes based on real-time conditions, and intelligently avoid obstacles to reach the end point.
Although AGV and AMR are different in concept, they have strong overlap in their application in industrial scenarios, and both are widely used in logistics and transportation scenarios. In the logistics scenarios of factories and warehouses, labor force is still the mainstream at present, and AMR and AGV have good results in different scenarios. This requires the development and popularization of technology to achieve this.
