Chinese Food Delivery Robots Cause A Stir in Small Australian Towns

Mar 23, 2023

Recently, a restaurant in Warrnambool, Victoria, Australia became the talk of the town after introducing robot waiters.

Elements Restaurant and Bar has been trialling a robot waiter named "Beepbop" for more than a week, and restaurateur Gene Seabrook is pleased with its performance.
According to the Herald Sun, Beepbop can sing "Happy Birthday" and the unique idea of using robot waiters stems from Seabrook's desire to offer something "different" to the restaurant.

He said: "We want something interesting. We have prepared a playground for the children. A singing robot fits our requirements."

While it does support staff, Seabrook says it's "mostly about entertainment" and "it's going to make guests laugh."
It is reported that he "hired" Beepbop from Melbourne, and he can take multiple orders at the same time and then move between tables to deliver food.

Seabrook plans to go to Melbourne next month to inspect different models. Beepbops could be the way of the future of serving in times of shortage.

Seabrook said: "Warrnambool also has a lot of businesses facing staff shortages, which puts a lot of pressure on existing staff because they have to do two jobs by themselves."
He also pointed out that in addition to the shortage of service personnel, the current problem is also the shortage of training personnel.

Seabrook said the arrival of Beepbop has made a valuable contribution to restaurant performance. "Everyone in the restaurant turned around. It was a great stunt." He encouraged other businesses to try it too.
